Visit from Giuseppe Mascoli, Founder of Franca Manca

On Friday 10 November we were delighted to welcome Giuseppe Mascoli, Entrepreneur and Founder of the Franco Manca restaurants to Milton Abbey for a Headmaster’s Lecture.

A bus load of Giuseppe’s chefs had descended on the School in Spring to pick a tonne of wild garlic from our woods; this was quickly turned in to delicious wild garlic pesto and served up on the delicious seasonal Franco Manca’s pizzas around the country.   Keen to return the favour, Giuseppe agreed to come and speak to the School community about his business, his love of food and how he turned a small pizzeria in Brixton Market, which he opened in 2008, in to a successful pizzeria chain with over 40 restaurants.

Interviewed by food writer and columnist Rose Prince, Giuseppe took us through his journey from his childhood in Positano, his career as an economic lecturer at the London School of Economics, life as a nightclub owner and finally restauranteur and entrepreneur.   He also found time to give a pizza workshop to Lower Sixth hospitality students, advise one of our Entrepreneur in Residence competition finalists, Luchino, on his proposed start-up business, Lu’Olio, and chat to our Italian pupils as seen below.   We look forward to welcoming Franco Manca chefs back to our woods next Spring.
