Safeguarding
News & Information
Milton Abbey recognises that the welfare of children is paramount: the needs and wishes of each child will be put first.
OUR COMMITMENT TO SAFEGUARDING
We expect all our staff and volunteers to share this commitment to safeguarding and details of how we achieve this can be found in our full Safeguarding Policies & Procedures.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents and carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.
We actively support the UK Government’s Prevent agenda to counter radicalism and extremism, and we are an Operation Encompass School (see Domestic abuse section below).

SAFEGUARDING INCLUSION AWARD
We’re thrilled to announce that Milton Abbey School has been named a finalist in the 2025 Safeguarding and Child Protection Association (SACPA) Safeguarding Awards for the ‘Safeguarding Inclusion Award’!
Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. It’s not just about protection, it’s about empowerment. Every student is known, valued, and supported, and our inclusive approach ensures that all young people can take an active role in their own wellbeing and that of others.
A shining example of this ethos in action is the school’s Digital Leaders programme, an inspiring, student led initiative that champions online safety, digital wellbeing, and safeguarding awareness across the school community. The Digital Leaders are a diverse group of students from different year groups and backgrounds who share a passion for technology, creativity, and community responsibility. Working collaboratively with staff from the Safeguarding and IT teams, they identify key issues affecting young people online, from cyberbullying and online privacy to digital balance and positive social media use. Rather than simply being taught about these topics, the pupils lead the conversation, creating resources that speak directly to their peers in relatable and engaging ways.
One of the most impactful aspects of their work includes student-led videos, posters, and digital campaigns that highlight important safeguarding messages. Using language, imagery, and humour that resonate with their peers, they design materials that make complex issues accessible and relevant. These range from animated clips explaining how to report online concerns to bold posters promoting kindness, consent, and respect in digital spaces.
