Headmaster's Lecture by Alistair Carr, MAA

On Friday evening, 18 May, we welcomed Alistair Carr who had left Milton Abbey in 1987 to give the last Headmaster's Lecture of the term.   Alistair is a travel writer, explorer and artist.

On Friday evening, 18 May, we weclomed Old Miltonian, Alistair Carr, for a fascinating Headmaster’s Lecture about his journey across the lost wilderness that is the Manga in south-eastern Niger.

Alastair left Milton Abbey in 1987 and is a writer, explorer and artist. He has written The Singing Bowl - Journeys through Inner Asia and more recently The Nomad’s Path, Travels in the Sahel.  The Manga is one of Africa's most wild and remote regions; situated in south-eastern Niger in the shadow of the Old Salt Road it has been forgotten by the modern world.   Alistair's tales of escaping tribal conficts, meeting people along the way who survive in this remote wilderness and the connection he made with his two guides kept us all spellbound.   Alistair even managed to find time to catch up with Nelson for a well deserved drink in the Hambro after his lecture.
