Sports Results - Week 4

A round-up of the sports results from week 4 of the Lent Term by Ben Lawes, Head of Sport.

Hockey

The Hockey Club enjoyed some extremely close matches this week.

The 1st XI travelled to HCS for an exciting game that ended 2-2. Our strong defence of Oscar, Angus, Oliver and MVP Lucas kept HCS out for long periods of the game. Two slick goals from Jake and Will gave us the advantage. HCS pulled one back before MA missed a flick to seal the match. HCS managed to muster one final attack that saw the ball smashed into the bottom corner with the final touch of the game.

The U16s had a very close game losing 4-3 away to QE Wimborne. The Abbey started well and were quickly 2-0 up with goals from Max and Bug. However QE were allowed back into the game and went 3-2 up. A beautiful deflection from Sam gave the Abbey their third. QE managed to find a last chance to seal the win at 4-3.

The U15s won 2-1. Another great game that could have gone either way. Korner led the line superbly and was rewarded with an excellent opening goal. We should have scored more but were wasteful in front of goal. HCS were much stronger in the second half and equalised before Eden got the winner with a fine finish. Other outstanding performances came from Goss, Holmes and Flanagan.

The U14s started brightly and forced a short corner early on. However, HCS had an outstanding player who has already played for their firsts. He scored 3 goals in quick succession. MA picked things up after half time with some battling play from Keii and Joe. Josh made some good breaks down the left and we should have scored on a couple of occasions. Archie was excellent in goal and was awarded Man of the Match.

Netball

The U15s dominated the start but failed to score and HCS made us pay to take the lead. In the second half Violet, Ava and Aly all found their range and the goals came flooding in before HCS finished well. Amelie played well controlling the game at centre while Indy and Leila worked well in defence. A narrow defeat.

House Sport

The Junior Inter-House (indoor) Cricket Competition took place the weekend before Exeat. The competition supplied all of the emotions you'd expect of a high level cricketing affair. The sides were evenly matched throughout but it was Damer and Athelstan who eventually came out as joint winners. They finished on the same number of points and lost the same number of wickets. Damer were leading going into the final match against Athelstan; however a destructive spell of bowling from Tom restricted Damer to a low total which Athelstan knocked off with ease to ensure the cup was shared.

The final positions are as follows:
4th Tregonwell
3rd Hambro
1st Athelstan and Damer
