News & Info > Rory Bremner Brings the House Down Rory Bremner Brings the House Down Milton Abbey’s New Barn Theatre was full to bursting on Saturday night with a huge audience eagerly awaiting, ‘An Evening with Rory Bremner’. Rory Bremner, who is currently on tour with his new show ‘Partly Political’, had very generously offered to put on a special performance for Milton Abbey School to help raise funds for the School’s new Equestrian Centre. Parents, Alumni, Friends of Milton Abbey, Governors, pupils and local people all turned out in huge numbers for this eagerly anticipated event. The evening started with four Milton Abbey music scholars who each gave stunning solo singing performances; Rufus, Violet, Laura and Tom really impressed with their confidence, skill, connection with the audience and beautiful singing. They truly deserved the fantastic response that they were given by the audience and were an excellent showcase for our pupils’ musical talent under the excellent guidance of our Director of Music, Shaun Pirttijarvi. Rory Bremner then burst on to the stage and kept everyone in fits of laughter for the next hour with his satirical take on British (and American) politics. From Trump to Boris, Blair to Brown and Farage to Gove, no public figure was sparred the cutting wit and perfect impressions that flowed a dozen to the minute. The audience had to keep on their toes as Bremner treated them to a seemingly endless stream of hilarious anecdotes all delivered with razor sharp timing. As one audience member tweeted, ‘Bremner was on fire at Milton Abbey last night.’ At the end of the evening of £14,500 had been raised and the audiences smiles and chuckles as they made their way home were testament to a brilliant evening in the company of Britain’s best-known satirical impressionist. Rory said of the evening, "Milton Abbey is a very special place and a very special school. It was great fun to share the stage with some of the pupils, even if the recent General Election did mean a few re-writes for me! Even better that so much was raised to give the next generation the facilities they need for the wide range of interests the school encourages.” Rory is perhaps best known for writing and starring in the political satire show Bremner, Bird and Fortune, for nearly twenty years a mainstay of Channel 4’s comedy output. He won back-to-back BAFTAs for Britain’s Top Comedy Performance in 1995 and 1996, together with three Royal Television Society and two British Comedy Awards. However his talents don’t stop there, as well as an impressionist, comedian and satirist, he is also a translator, columnist, writer, presenter and ballroom dancer. In his words, he is ‘multi-talented or indecisive or both’!
