Performing Arts Showcase by Lower Sixth Form Pupils

The recent Lower Sixth Form BTEC Performing Arts Showcase in the New Barn Theatre was a huge success.  The pieces performed on the night had been written, directed and performed by the pupils themselves and was a combination of their work over the past academic year.

Each piece was interspersed up by some fantastic singing performances by Chris, Phoebe and Atty, allowing the drama scenery to be set up on stage.  The pieces the pupils created showed a diverse range of talent, from Tom’s hilarious Theatre in Education piece to Fran’s abstract look at society and Estella’s touching piece on mental health. The group were pushed to perform a range of characters as displayed by Ollie and Emre’s partnership as the dog and flea which was a particular highlight.

They showed a real commitment with their physical theatre pieces that showed a true understanding for movement, partner work and the ability to tell a story through movement alone. Tom and Fran’s portrayal of an abusive relationship was full of chemistry and took a real maturity to create. Estella’s performance as the doll was excellent with exaggerated facial expressions to fit the abstract style of the piece.

The whole group have worked superbly over the past year and this showcase was a culmination of that work.  Many congratulations  to all involved; it was a fantastic evening of drama and we look forward to seeing what this group will produce next year.
