News & Info > Jemima wins her Class in Dressage Competition Jemima wins her Class in Dressage Competition Many congratulations to Milton Abbey pupil Jemima who came first in her class in her second ever Dressage Competition on her horse 'Pipsqueak' at the Moreton Equestrian Centre earlier this month. Jemima is in her first year in the Sixth Form, studying BTEC Equine Management. Jemima has only owned her horse “Pipsqueak” since the beginning of the summer, he is only six and fairly inexperienced. Gail Marsh has been working with Jemima and Pipsqueak since September and says, “We have been taking it slowly with him, doing a variety of different riding activities to keep him focussed with a mixture of hacking, schooling and work on the all-weather surface at the school. She has worked really hard especially at schooling him and calming him down, as he was quite on edge and could be quite naughty when he first arrived at the school in September.” The preparation for the competition all relates and provides evidence for various units on the BTEC Horse Management Course; the units range from working horses on the flat, preparing a horse for presentation and travelling horses. Gail continues, “We got the horses in on Friday evening and bathed them ready for Saturday. Jemima also plaited Pipsqueak’s mane the night before, we cleaned our tack, and made sure we had all our riding equipment ready for the morning. We arrived at the yard at 6.30am on Saturday morning to give the horses their breakfast, then we mucked the horses out, brushed them, tacked them up and were ready to be picked up in the lorry at 7.45am. We arrived at Moreton Equestrian Centre at 8.30am, which gave us plenty of time to get our numbers, check our times and get on the horses to give them a good warm up so they were relaxed and ready for their test. Pipsqueak was initially quite tense, but settled well and went on to do a lovely relaxed test. For Jemima to win her Class in the Dressage Competition was a massive achievement for both Pipsqueak and herself.”
