Author Rose Prince awards winning Hospitality pupils

We were delighted to welcome author and cookery writer for the Telegraph, Rose Prince, who visited Milton Abbey to present prizes to winning Business Enterprise Hospitality pupils.

Pictured are the successful pupils who completed their Business Enterprise unit for their Level 3 Hospitality qualification by selling homemade products for the Hospitality stall at the Milton Abbey School Fete, last June.  The stall was named the Capability Bakehouse, Kitchen and Smokery and was the most successful stall at the Fete raising more than half the day's funds.

At the beginning of the task the pupils were unaware that they would be competing for cash prizes for the most dedicated and hardworking pupil.  The Bill Ainscough Award for Artisan Food Enterprise was won by Isabelle Walker (centre) for her production and sales of macaroons.  Runners up were Amelia Marsh and Annabel Hume-Kendall.  Amelia made fudge in a variety of different flavours whilst Annabel prepared and cooked parmesan biscuits and chilli jam.  The girls also created bespoke packaging and labels.  However it wasn’t just their hard work in their own endeavours that made them successful, they also supported the other pupils in their Hospitality class and created a real team effort.

Alongside Hospitality teacher Elka Charlton, the pupils were supported in their task by Rose Prince author and cookery writer for the Telegraph. Rose is pictured with the girls, Headmaster Magnus Bashaarat and Head of Hospitality Leonie Monaghan, who said “We are enormously proud of our pupils and the tremendous effort that they put into this task.  They raised a lot of money for the school charities as well completing their coursework for this unit. Their enthusiastic participation was due to the influence of both their teacher Elka and the wonderful attention to detail provided by Rose who was kind enough to spend time with our pupils regularly over many weeks, as well as initiating the prize from Mr Ainscough to whom we are very grateful’.

Isabelle was also lucky enough to receive a copy of Rose’s new book, published just last month,  ‘Dinner & Party: Gatherings. Suppers. Feasts.’
