Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme

As part of the extensive extra-curricular activities offered at Milton Abbey the school runs the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme enabling pupils to discover new skills, new friends, improve their problem solving skills, enhance their self esteem, gain a sense of achievement and have fun.

Milton Abbey pupils can take two sections of the award:

          - Silver (offered to the 3rd Form onwards)

          - Gold (offered to the 6th Form Only)

Each of the awards is made up of four units including Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and an expedition. The Gold Award also requires pupils to undertake a residential project. As a rule it will take pupils 12 months plus to complete the Silver Award and 18 months for the Gold Award.

Expedition Overview

Silver Award

Annually, pupils are required to undertake a 3 day / 2 night expedition locally which can be in to the New Forest, along Dorset’s extensive coastal paths or inland bridle paths and byways. A route is planned by pupils before setting off either on foot or bicycle before cooking and washing for themselves under the guidance of Milton Abbey's qualified D of E staff members.

Gold Award

For the Gold Award pupils are required to plan expeditions further afield for example the moors of Devon, the Lake District or even abroad. They spend 4 days / 3 nights demonstrating their ability to survive in the great outdoors.
