Assembly after half term
Feb 20, 2012
I hope that everyone enjoyed an unexpectedly long half term. The decision to shut the school was not easy, but was necessary, and we have managed to eliminate an extremely nasty bug from our surroundings. Thank you for acting so swiftly.
I was very sad when Mr Williams informed me that he would be leaving Milton Abbey at the end of this year. He is a giant of a man in all ways, and has left …
PUPILS TO RETURN HOME - MESSAGE TO PARENTS
Feb 06, 2012
Dear Parents,
Following the email from the Deputy Head this morning, we have assessed the situation regarding the virulent stomach bug that we have at school.
The number of pupils who are now affected has risen above sustainable levels at the school. We therefore have no other option but to shut the school.
The school has arranged extra coaches to help parents with travel arrangements on the ro…
VIRULENT STOMACH BUG - MESSAGE TO PARENTS
Feb 06, 2012
Dear Parents,
Re: Virulent Stomach bug
Over the past 48 hours the school has been hit by a virulent stomach bug.
As of this morning, the number of pupils affected is well over 13% of the school population and this is excluding staff (both academic and support) who have been struck down.
We have, as part of our medical protocol, sought advice through the school doctor and HPA …
-9 and frozen pitches
Feb 04, 2012
We've been lucky so far this term - the excellent and frankly mild winter weather has meant we've had a full fixture list and haven't missed any days building for the new boarding houses. However, the cold snap has hit us and we're suffering from frozen pitches. To that end, we're having to postpone the inter-house matches today; we'll be making alternative arrangements, and playing these games at…
Assembly after exeat
Feb 01, 2012
If anyone here was present at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon as I was, when the Gunners played Aston Villa, then they were lucky people. Not only would they have witnessed one of the most exciting games of the FA cup this season, but they would also have seen how teamwork, passion and determination can turn around the fortunes of eleven men who seemed all but beaten at half time.
Villa …
Reflections on a trip to Germany
Jan 03, 2012
Before Christmas I sat in the departure lounge of Munich airport having read another concerning article in the Daily Telegraph that was delivered to my Kindle. Germany's deficit stands at 1% of GDP, whilst Britain's is 8.8%. German economic growth is projected at close to 4% over the coming year at, whilst the British figure is 0.6%.
These figures do not make enjoyable readin…

The Independent Schools Show
We had a very successful two days at the Independent Schools Show in Battersea Park, London on Saturday and Sunday - we met a huge number of people who were interested in sending their children to Milton Abbey, alongside some friends from other schools. It was definitely worth going to, and we'll be back again next year.

I am pleased to say that Movemb…
Taster day and assembly
Nov 03, 2011
It was wonderful to welcome such a super group of boys and girls to the taster day today at Milton Abbey. I'm really pleased that they enjoyed themselves, taking part in science activities, attempting the assault course, cooking the hospitality suite and getting involved in a teambuilding exercise.
I was going to post my assembly here after Monday - apologies for the delay!
"Firstly, I’m p…
