Sports Reports - Week 1

A round-up of the sports results from week 1 of the Lent Term by Mr Lawes, Head of Sport.

Netball

The 1st VII had a good 20 – 0 win. Poppy and Amelia worked well with Ka-Yee and Hatty to put the scores on the board. The defence were never under any real pressure. Player of the match Amelia.

The 2nd VII won 18 -0 with impressive performances from Estella and Annie. There was also some lovely movement from Hannah, Abi and Lily. Tilly also played better and better with each pass.

The U15A team enjoyed a 15 -1 win. An excellent performance with strong attacking play. Player of the match was Amelia who as Captain was particularly impressive.

The U15B team also won. Ruby and Bubble in particular played extremely well. Rebecca showed some great determination in a new sport. MA going on to win the game 5-2. The MVP was Bubble.

Well done to all the girls - an excellent start to the Netball season!

Hockey

The young 1st XI had a narrow 2-1 loss to Clayesmore 2nd XI. A result that didn’t reflect the game with MA dominating large parts of it. A well worked goal from Bug gave us the lead. But after we conceded our heads dropped allowing Clayesmore to get a winner. Will lead the team well, with Angus earning MVP with a solid debut performance at centre back. A promising start.

The 2nd XI made a promising start with a 3-1 victory. The team worked very hard in defence, James was outstanding throughout, whilst goals from Ben, Charlie and Piers gave the team an advantage. MVP was Johnny for some outstanding goalkeeping in his first match.

It was a fantastic start to the season for the U15s winning 5-0. Dan and Alex both had impressive matches scoring two goals each and Archie produced potentially the best goal of the season. However it was Alex and Marcus that impressed the most in their debut matches. Marcus was awarded MVP.

The U14s played extremely hard and showed lots of potential for the term ahead. Piers lead the team well and scored 2 goals both assisted by Josh on the wing. Our defence showed some promising play, held together by Oscar and George. Archie was excellent in goal and Joseph was awarded MVP.

Football

The 1st XI drew 4 - 4 against Clayesmore.  Milo and Harry were fantastic in defence forcing only long range shots. After we scored, we relaxed and played better football. Unfortunately an own goal saw Clayesmore equalise. Despite scoring another 3 goals, Clayesmore kept on coming back. In midfield, Denis played a vital role and Dano, Benji, Harry and AaRon all scored.  A very good game. Denis was awarded man of the match.
