Sports Report: Week 6

A round-up of sports results from Week 6 of the Michaelmas Term by Mr Lawes, Director of Sport.

Rugby

1st vs Wells – lost

Milton Abbey got off to a great start in what was a hugely enjoyable match with MA winning ruck after ruck at great pace. Unfortunately the Wells defence held out and MA mistakes led to a few tries for Wells. We managed to score two fantastic team tries that were finished off by Pawson and Farquharson. The 35-10 score line really didn’t reflect what was a very close match.

2nds vs Warminster 1sts - lost

Milton Abbey’s 2nd XV turned up to Warminster expecting to play their 2nds but to our surprise Warminster fielded their 1st XV. Unsurprisingly we lost the match but the real winners were the boys wearing black and gold. It was the most committed performance Mr Stoot has seen from any Milton Abbey Team. They tackled hard, played good free flowing rugby and scored a glorious team try. Oli was named man of the match for an outstanding Milton Abbey rugby debut but every player in the team deserves a pat on the back.

U15 vs Wells - lost

The U15s played some of their best rugby of the season against a very strong Wells Cathedral side. The team played with impressive levels of commitment and enthusiasm throughout the match and scored two outstanding tries through George and Max. Joseph, Sonny and Harry all had their best games in Milton Abbey colours to date. Well done to all!

U14 vs Wells - won

A fantastic 'bounce back' win for the U14s. Our off loading game is really developing, and if we can get our defence to develop in equal measure, we will hold our own against most sides this season. Some good results this half term, on the back of some good training. Keep up the hard work!

Golf vs Staff

The Staff won 4-2 thanks to victories for Mr Drewitt, Mr Scott and Mr Stoot. The pupils played well. Fine wins for Alex and Hugo. Hugo shot a course record 30. An excellent evening of golf.

Hockey

1st XI vs Sexey’s – won 2-0 and vs Bruton Girls – won 1-0

The 1st XI's fine season continued with another two impressive victories. The fact that they lost to Sexey’s 2-0 last year shows how far the team has come. The back four of Daisy, Paige, Rosie and Tallulah deserve great credit for keeping another 2 clean sheets. Annie is in great form in front of goal and scored in both matches. Marshy, Violet, Becca and Kiwi controlled our press extremely well and forced lots of turnovers. India and Laura performed well having been promoted from the 2nds. Keep up the hard work!

U15 vs Bruton Girls – drew 2-2

MA started the match slowly and where 2-0 down at half time due to some sloppy goals. We need to make sure we clear the ball from danger as soon as possible. However the girls showed great determination to come back and secure a 2-2 draw. Louise had a great second half and Zara and Bubble never stopped running.

Football

1st XI vs Canford – won 5-3

We scored two early goals which gave us confidence. Giuseppe organised the defence very well and our attackers made some good runs to create space. This weeks man of the match goes to goal keeper Alex who had a fantastic game to ensure the win. An excellent match and a fine win.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

MA Clay Pigeon Shooting team took part in the barbory cup in Swindon. Fin and Josh didn’t drop a single clay for the first 4 stands. Things unravelled a bit in the flush where the team dropped 16 clays. They came back strong and ended the day in 5th place out of 15 teams. A good result that could have easily been so much more. We try to retain the Millfield cup next month.
