Sixth Form London Galleries visit

Milton Abbey's Sixth Form artists and photographers enjoyed a day at the London Galleries with Miss Fenwick, Mrs Burton and Art Technician, Polly Hughes this week.

The highlight of the day for many was most probably the exhibition at the Hayward Gallery, a major retrospective of the German photographer Andreas Gursky. Gursky's photographs are about collective existence and are monumental pieces which depict, vast landscapes, teeming crowds and massive man-made structures. There was something for all of the pupils to take away from this exhibition and for some it directly related to their current assignment for their exam, so very relevant and worth making the journey for.

The group also visited The Tate modern where pupils conducted their own research missions and identified collections in the gallery to relate to their own practice and work. Along the way there was also time to take photographs to use as part of the research and preparation for the exam. The final venue was the V&A where once again there was an opportunity to visit an exhibition on 'Trees'; another A Level starting point, where there were some stunning images. Pupils also spent some time exploring the vast array of permanent displays and exhibitions in order to find information and inspiration for their external assignment themes. A long day but a great success all round.
