Drama

Milton Abbey School has a 370-seat, purpose-built theatre on which we stage plays, musicals and musical recitals; it is also used for lectures and whole-school assemblies. Pupils have many opportunities to perform or to join the stage management team and learn about lighting, sound and set construction.

Our annual programme of plays and musicals varies from full-length, formal pieces to home-grown variety shows (known as Impromptus) in which the staff may also take part. A whole-school play is staged every year, and a musical every other year; a Lower School play is produced every year; there is also the annual house drama competition.

Drama is a popular choice in the curriculum at both GCSE and A Level. The course and exam work provide more opportunity for small-group theatre activity.

We believe that being involved in a theatre production teaches individuals how to work as a team and brings out different strengths, be they in acting, stage management, poster design or administration. It is also a tremendous bonding experience.
