Art, Design and Technology

Milton Abbey School has professional artists on the full-time staff to teach skills in textile design, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography and computer graphics.

Every boy in Year 9 (the entry year) learns to paint, draw and experiment with these other media, and some will choose to study art and photography to GCSE and A Level. We encourage those who do not go this route to come to the art school in their free time, just to make use of the materials and skills that are available, to do their own thing.

Students are offered regular trips to museums and art galleries, both local and in London and abroad; for those studying art and history of art in the Sixth Form there are also residential trips to Europe.

For Design & Technology, Milton Abbey School has a modern, purpose-built centre which contains a large workshop, storage and preparation areas and classrooms. All boys in Year 9 are introduced to the workshop, learn best practice and study basic design-drawing technique and construction processes in wood, metal and plastics.

Most boys opt to follow a DT course to GCSE, and they may also take DT and electronics on to A Level standard.

As with art, all students are welcome to spend their free time in the DT workshop, pursuing woodwork or electronics as a hobby.
