Headmasters Welcome
I hope our website will serve as an informative introduction to this remarkable,
small boarding school and, at the same time, give you a sense of what it feels like
to live and work here.
Milton Abbey School is an independent school like no other. We are a small school,
with a maximum of 250 pupils, that believes in educating the whole person. We take
boys aged 13-18, and girls aged 16-18 in the Sixth Form, and aim to care for each
one as an individual and to build self-confidence in a variety of ways. If a pupil
is capable of achieving excellent academic results and going on to higher education,
even a top university, we will ensure that he or she does. Equally, we nurture
– with some expertise – those who may not, for a variety of reasons, flourish academically;
our goal is for them to achieve their personal best. Ours is an intimate community
in which achievement in any area is never rated more highly than quality of character.
Some key characteristics
Your first impression, when you visit us here in Dorset, may well be of welcoming
warmth, and of the good manners, lack of affectation and happiness of all who live
and work here. Everybody knows everybody. And we offer your sons, and daughters
in the Sixth Form, the opportunity to enjoy their school days, to discover who they
are and to learn about others. Milton Abbey pupils are famously open-hearted, fun
and entrepreneurial. Many go on to be high achievers in a wide range of careers.
Come and see for yourself
If, having read this, you believe that Milton Abbey School may be the independent
boarding school for your son or daughter, I hope you will come and see us in action.
It is very important for you and for us to achieve a good match. We have a programme
of open days, if you would like to take an informal look; or you are welcome to
come and meet me, tour the school and talk to members of the community.
I look forward to meeting you and your children.
